The problem

A 14 km pipeline runs beside a 240 kV transmission line.

Field readings showed induced AC above the safe touch limit at two valve sites, and the operator needed a plan before a scheduled dig.

Our approach

  1. 01

    Model

Induced voltage modelled for normal and fault conditions along the corridor.

  2. 02

    Design

Zinc ribbon and six DC decouplers specified at the worst-case locations.

  3. 03

    Install

Ribbon laid in the existing trench; decouplers set at the valve sites.

  4. 04

    Verify

Touch and step voltages re-measured under load.
